Athens Walking Tours is a Travel Agency authorized by the Greek State Company. Our license no (0206E61000258001) has been granted to our company by the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) and entitles us to offer all types of tourist services such as guided tours, transfers, hotel bookings, restaurant reservations, air/ ferry/bus/train tickets and all services relevant to the accommodation of visitors in Greece.
The
Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) is a Public Entity supervised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Since 1950, the GNTO constitutes the leading state agency of the tourism sector. GNTO is the sole Organization in Greece responsible for all tourism sector businesses. All Travel Agencies and Tour Operators in Greece must have a valid License Number from GNTO, in order to be legal. Taxi drivers, tour leaders or self-called tour operators who have not obtained a GNTO licence are illegal and are not allowed to offer any tourist services. Therefore these ‘operators’:
- cannot issue legal receipts
- are subject to random checks by the tourist police that may even lead to arrests of the operators
- may disappear with no warning and no refunds (you cannot demand a refund from an illegal operator)
