Koulouri Corner


At the corner of Korai and Stadiou str., outside the Panepistimiou metro station, Andreas and Eirini treat hasty Athenians to a fresh warm Greek snack ‘The koulouri” which is a round shaped bread covered with sesame seeds; a popular favorite snack and a staple of the Greek daily diet. Eirini and Andreas have been married for 40 years, have two daughters, work 10-12 hours a day, rain or shine, always with the smile on their face while keeping up the old Greek tradition of the street “Koulouri vendors”;
Eirini says” it is important to keep your nook clean and be nice to everybody; a warm hello is the least and the easiest you can offer to all those who stop by to get their Koulouri.

Doris

Miran


The MIRAN Company was established in 1922 and has been growing ever since; two are the main products of the company produced massively, pastourma and soutzouki. The Miran Company is synonymous to quality and tradition and its name is known all over Greece. The quality and the unique taste of its products mainly of Pastourma, became a way of life for the lovers of the kind. In 1994 Miran obtains an export code for the European Union and exports its products in 5 European countries and its target is to cover all of them within the next five years. Its products fulfill the high standards of the European Union.

Pastourma is cured meat that has its roots in the Orient and most specifically in Armenia, Turkey and Cappadocia. It is wide spread delicacy in the Middle East as well as in the Balkan countries and should not be confused with pastrami. Originally it was made from camel meat but nowadays it is produced from all meats such as veal, beef, mutton and from all animal’s parts. It is spread with “tsimeni” which is a mixture of garlic, paprika, salt and fenugreek. It is this tsimeni that gives pastourma its strong taste. Pastourma is served with ouzo or raki and is one of the most favourite delicatessens of the Greeks eaten before a main meal as appetizer.

Bougatsadiko "Thessaloniki at Psirri"


In the heart of Psiri area and only a few feet away from Monastiraki Square you will try the best Bougatsa in Athens. This delicious pastry (consisting of custard, cheese, or minced meat filling between layers of Phyllo) was brought to Greece by refugees from Asia Minor back in 1922 and became very popular in Northern Greece. 

The Paschalides family, a refugee family from Pontus in Turkey, having first lived for a short time in Thessaloniki opened the bougatsadiko in Athens keeping up the family tradition. "I can still remember and smell the Bougatsa my grandmother used to make in a small kafeneion by Omonoia Square" says the owner Mr. Paschalides. "My grandmother's recipe as well as the fresh pure Greek products we use made our Bougatsa renowned all over Athens". Hasty Athenians pass by in the morning to have their Bougatsa breakfast but also in the weekends "the night birds" from night clubs or pubs of down town Athens like to sweeten their mouths and larynx by queuing up to eat their Bougatsa before they go to bed.

Dia Tauta


In the oldest and most beautiful district of Athens, Monastiraki, with a fascinating view of the Acropolis and the temple of Thesseion, the restaurant “dia tauta” was created in 1998. Kotili


A traditional cafe restaurant with a unique name in Monastiraki. The Kotili is an ancient type of measure and also a type of glass. The Kotili was used during religious holidays, as a sacrificial vessel. The restaurant has a green courtyard with tables. It offers a wide variety of Greek dishes, appetizers, fresh salads, desserts, coffee, ice cream and cocktails.
