Athens Walking Tours
Our guides

We are all Licensed Professional Tourist Guides

All of the Athens Walking Tours guides are licensed by the Greek Ministry of Tourism but more importantly they share one common trait among them, they love their job and do it with passion, which they regard as a mission, and do not repeat rehearsed information, but, rather, share their wealth of knowledge about Greece in the past and present with each and every one of our visitors in a friendly and informative manner. All Greek guides have to go through a rigorous training of 5 semesters and very strict examinations in order to receive their license. In addition to this all of the The Athens Walking Tours guides are also university graduates and have degrees in History, Archaeology, Cultural Heritage Studies and Foreign Languages.

Alexandra’s journey as a tour guide began when she decided to make a career change, follow her dream and study archaeology and history. She had already been teaching German as a foreign language for many years, and as much as she loved teaching and her students, the captivating charm of the ancient world never ceased to lure her. A whole new chapter opened up while long-gone civilizations and unique monuments of ancient art mesmerized her with their powerful legends. Pursuing a career as a tour guide was for Alexandra the most suitable and effective way to combine her love for history and art with her experience as a teacher and communicator. She hopes to see you out there soon and discover together the magnificent world of ancient Greek culture!

Effie has been a licenced tour guide since 2014. She has studied Archaeology and Art history and has worked not only in Athens but all over the country, guiding in Greek, English or French, and enjoying every single moment of it! "Effie is my name, short for Eftychia, the greek word for happiness.
At first, being an archaeologist was the result of a long-held romantic notion of making great discoveries, solving mysteries, admiring art, storytelling and travelling. As a kid, I always had my head buried in books, lost in the realms of the enchanting ancient civilisations of the world. Certain that life ought to revolve around this love affair, I realized later the need to share my nostalgia, passion and knowledge for Greece's spirit with guests from every corner of this world. And then, my dream came true! I became a guide!

Athens is simply a magical city! Let's find out together why, make wonderful memories and create a lifetime experience!"

Ermis

Ermis is a licensed tourist guide since 2011, and has a background in Balkan regional studies, focusing mostly on history, political philosophy and international relations.

When he was given to the opportunity to become a professional guide, it felt rather familiar to him and he leapt at the chance. Ermis loves receiving interesting questions by guests from around the world, but hates whitewashing the answers.

"My name is Ermis. It translates into English as Hermes. I answer to both!"
