No 5. The Benaki Museum
The vast collection of this museum is exhibited on three floors and is representative of Greek history and its development. It is housed in one of the best-preserved neoclassical buildings of Athens. On the ground floor, the visitor will follow the development of Greek art from 6,500 BC until the 16th century A.D. The rich, beautiful collection of figurines, vases, sculptures, jewels and icons will make your visit unforgettable. The first and third floors refer more to later Greek history.
Then you walk down the Herodes Atticus Road where you see some representative public buildings such as the Presidential Residence, the Maximos Mansion, and on to the Panathenaic Stadium home of the first Olympic Games in 1896 and you end up your tour by visiting the imposing Zeus Temple and the Hadrian’s Arch.
The tour lasts three hours and the walking itself is 40 minutes. The meeting point is inside the Syntagma Metro Station one level below, next to the ticket validating machines.
