It is a nice idea to spend your Christmas holiday in Athens for many reasons. The weather is always mild and nice so you can undertake a lot of outdoor activities, a rich cultural program is always prepared for both visitors and locals and of course the delicious Christmas food and sweets you may enjoy at every restaurant or home you may visit. Filled turkey with chestnuts, cones and raisins, pork meat baked in the oven with potatoes or served with lemon sauce, and as for sweets baklava, melomakarona, kourabiedes, diples and many more. There is so much for you to do and to taste.
The 2014 Christmas in Athens is celebrated in a wonderful way, which I am sure you will love. Most squares of the city including the central one, the Syntagma square, located in the front of the Parliament building have been decorated wonderfully and you can feel the festive spirit everywhere. The municipality of Athens and the Region of Attica have organized wonderful Christmas activities, both for adults and children. You will have the chance to enjoy theatrical plays, concerts, events and Christmas activities in the heart of the city.

Wednesday, 24 December 2014: At 11.00 Christmas carols by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Athens on Dionysiou Aeropagitou str., pedestrian walk way at the foot of the Acropolis and by the New Acropolis Museum.
Saturday, 27 December:
Pedion Areos At 12.00 the Philharmonic Orchestra will stroll in the streets and sing Christmas and New Year carols as well as joyful season’s music. This is close to Victoria metro station by the National Archaeological Museum.
Monastiraki Square – Flea Market 13.30 – 14.30 Christmas concert by the Athens Big Band. Music Stage – Syntagma Square 19.00 – 21.00 Concert by the Athens Symphony Orchestra and the City Choir entitled: “A Musical Journey to Cinema and Opera”, featuring Yannis Georgiadis (violin), Menelaos Tsiklidis (piano), Apostolos Kalogiannis (trumpet), Maria Mavromati (soprano), Dimitris Paksoglou (tenor). Wednesday, 31 December: Athens will say farewell to 2014 and will welcome the 2015 at the end of the pedestrian walk way towards the Thission metro station at the foot of the Acropolis on Apostolou Pavlou & Iraklidon str. There will be New Year’s Eve celebration from 23.00 – 03.00. This will be a festive music concert by music ensembles featuring popular Greek artists.
If you feel like a kid or you are a kid you may visit the Christmas Parks in the city. One of them is the “Santa Claus Kingdom”, which is located in M.E.C. Peania, an amazing, newly renovated area of 12.000 square meters and hosts lots of exciting Christmas activities. If you are downtown Athens, “Christmas Factory” in Technopolis – Gazi, close to Kerameikos metro station is a very good option for you or your family. In the north suburbs of Athens and specifically in Marousi very close to the Olympic Stadium (accessible by metro -Eirini metro station) you may visit “Snowland“. Lots of lights, wooden small houses, and Christmas music will amuse you! You can also skate in the Snowland.
