The Acropolis – Another Perspective

A few days ago a friend called. It was a lazy Saturday morning and I was drinking coffee and fooling around on Facebook. My friend asked me if I was online, I said yes, and he gave me an address and very excitedly said “you’ve gotta see this”.

The address my friend gave me was and the site is a noncommercial project focused on high resolution 3D aerial panoramas taken by a team of Russian photographers who in the next 2 to 3 years plan to shoot aerial panoramas and virtual 3D tours of the most interesting places of our planet.

Within minutes I was flying over the Jokulsarlon Ice Lagoon in Iceland and twirling like a kite over Saint Sophia in Istanbul.

Soon I started poking my friends and telling them they had to try this site out for themselves. To my very pleasant surprise I was quickly informed that the airpano team was in Athens thanks to the Athens Walking Tours who invited the group to Greece to photograph the Acropolis and other sites of interest in Athens, but also The Meteora, Santorini and Mykonos. This means that very soon the Acropolis will take its’ well deserved place on the site amongst the most interesting places on our planet!

I commend this initiative and the work that Airpano has done so far! For all you virtual travelers this is the perfect site for you and it is definitely a temporary cure for wanderlust.
Of course it is definitely not as good as seeing the Acropolis and the Parthenon Marbles up close with an Athens Walking Tour, but the airpano site can prepare your senses in the best possible way until you get to Athens.

Just a few words of caution – the site can be addictive.
Happy Flying!
