Your ship finally docks in Athens and you couldn’t be more excited! Only, it does not actually dock in the city of Athens, but in the bustling port of Piraeus.
Don’t worry! There are a number of ways to get to the city center, depending on your exact location and preferred mode of transportation.
→ For Regular Ships
By train
If you traveled on one of the regular ships connecting the port with the Greek islands, then you have arrived at one of the following gates: E1, E2, E6, E7, E8, E9
Most of these gates are fairly close to the Railway Station Pireas, which is located between gates E5 and E6. From there, you can choose to take either Line 1 / green line (the above-ground Electric Railway also known as ISAP) with the direction to Kifissia, or Line 3 / blue line (one of the two underground railway lines) with the direction to the Airport.
Line 1 stations in the city center: Monastiraki, Thissio
Line 3 stations in the city center: Monastiraki, Syntagma
By bus
The Bus Line 040 with direction to Syntagma can also be useful to you if you disembark at one of the following gates: E8, E9. Head to the bus stop called Plateia Terpsitheas (stop ID: 400504) (make sure to be on the right side of the road for the direction you want to take). Get off at the terminal stop, which is called Terma 040 - Syntagma.
The Bus Line 049 with direction to Omonoia will also get you to the centrally located Omonoia Square. Close to gate E9, you will find the bus stop 2as Merarchias (Olympiaki) (stop ID: 400196), from where you can take the bus and get off at the last stop, called Omonoias.
→ For Cruise Ships
If you arrived on a Cruise, you need to keep in mind that there are in fact 3 cruise terminals at the port of Piraeus!
By bus
The Bus Line 049 stop Peiraias (stop ID: 25) is located between Cruise Terminals A and C, while Teloneio (stop ID: 400276) is closer to Terminal A. You can take the bus from either of those stops and get off at the final stop, called Omonoias (stop ID: 26).
Between May and October, you can also make use of the Express Bus Line X80. The Bus Terminal is right outside Terminal C, but you can also take it from the bus stop called OLP (direction to Athens) and get off at either bus stop Akropolis or Syntagma, which are both very centrally located.
