Athens Food Tour

Our food tour is a wonderful opportunity to free sample a wide variety of local delicacies, ranging from the mouth-watering syrupy “loukoumades” to traditional meats, herbs and spices, let alone the ever-popular sesame “koulouri".

We will visit various specialty and food shops, colourful and enticing delicatessens, aromatic and tempting bakeries and sweet shops, restaurants, dairies, spice, grocery and pie shops where you will sample and taste the most traditional Greek food and not necessarily the Greek food stereotypes "tzatziki or moussaka".

A genuine Athenian food tour would not be complete without a visit to the vibrant central Varvakeios food market, with its bustling energy and loud bargaining; this colorful world of fruit and spice stalls, meat and fish will fascinate you.

Our licensed guides will lead you through a food stroll and introduce you to small, hidden specialty food shops. They will provide valuable insight both on the unique and intricate culinary heritage of Greece as well as the famous Mediterranean diet, hailed today as a model of healthy living.

Join us to embark on a culinary journey and a delightful world of taste, color, smell and texture that lies right below the striking Acropolis, in the heart of the historic city center will be revealed to you.

The tour takes place every day except on the weekends and begins at 10:00 am. During September and October the tour will also take place on Saturdays. Max participation: 12 people

The meeting point is outside the Starbucks at Korai street, outside Panepistimio Metro Station (follow the signs for 'Korai' exit). Your tour guide will be holding the orange colour Athens Walking Tours sign in his/her hands to recognise him/her.
